Railway Initiatives

About 164 KM railway line runs through all the coastal taluks of our district from Bhatkal to Karwar. In spite of people of the district sacrificing their valuable agriculture lands for Konkan Railway Project till date we were deprived of railway facilities and also employment as assured by the governments.

We all know a good railway connectivity to the district will not only improve the local economy but will also boost the tourism industry which in return will give opportunity to many associated bussiness to the people of the district. So Aashraya Foundation has taken up task of involving itself with development of Railway facilities in Uttar Kannada district and we are aiming to give 3 dimensional railway connectivity to the district.

Hubli- Ankola is one of the most important project which is held up for last 15 years for environmental concerns, which is actually more of political than environmental. Hence Aashraya Foundation has taken up this task of dealing with government agencies in getting required clearances for the project. As this links costal Karnataka to north Karnataka and opens the door for commercial development in Uttar Kannada district.

We are also eager to link Talguppa to Honnavara, which is again in the cloud of environment concerns. This will open up direct link to our state capital Bangalore in just 8 hrs from our district. This line will also help in connecting north parts of our country to Bangalore.

We are already working on connecting railway links to our other taluks by proposing railway line from Sagar- Siddapura-Sirsi-Yellapura-joida-Madgao. Primary survey has already done for this line and awaiting approval from Railway Board.

  1. Bangalore-Karwar Train : Aashraya Foundation had filed PIL in Karnataka High Court against the injustice caused to Uttar Kannada district. Hon”ble High Court upheld our demands and ordered for direct train to Karwar from Bangalore.
  2. Extention of Karwar- Mumbai superfast to Mangalore : On our demands this train from CST Mumbai to Karwar was extended till Mangalore. This has given an opportunity for the people of other taluks to get direct train to Mumbai and this train is also convient for many passangers travelling to Mangalore from our district for various reasons.
  3. On our constant demand public facilities at all the railway station have been improved in terms of Benches at platforms, drinking water facilities, good waiting rooms and providing PNR ( passanger reservation counter) at Kumta and Bhatkal.
  4. Train Stoppages: On our demand now most of all major trains have stoppage at Uttarkannada district in different stations.
